  • Guilford College Places Three on All-ODAC Baseball Teams

    Three Guilford College students earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball recognition, league officials announced Thursday. Outfielders Chad Boone and Joe John garnered second-team honors. Catcher Phil Drew was an honorable mention selection.

    Sophomore Byron Myers' two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Guilford College past Washington and Lee University, 8-7, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball game at McBane Field Tuesday. The Quakers' (11-21, 4-10 ODAC) fourth win in six games gained a split of the season series with the league-leading Generals (16-8, 10-4 ODAC).
  • Roanoke Tops Guilford, 4-0, in Baseball

    The Roanoke College baseball team improved to 7-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 4-0 win over visiting Guilford College Friday evening. With the win the Maroons improve to 8-21 overall and remain in sixth place in the ODAC standings. The top-six teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the conference 's postseason tournament. Roanoke hosts Bridgewater on Saturday in a double-header. Prior to Friday's action, Bridgewater was in fifth place in the league standings.

    After a forgettable 3-16 record in March, Guilford College's baseball team started April on a good note with a 17-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over visiting Roanoke College Tuesday afternoon at McBane Field. The Quakers' third ODAC win in four games raised their overall record to 9-20 (3-9 ODAC). Roanoke slipped to 6-18 (5-6 ODAC) with its third straight loss.
  • Guilford Earns Split in Doublehead against Hampden-Sydney

    Robbie Bailey worked out of bases-loaded jams in the eighth and ninth innings to help visiting Hampden-Sydney split this Old Dominion Athletic Conference twinbill with a 6-5 win in the second game. He got Byron Myers to hit into a double play in the 8th inning and a Phil Drew flyout in the 9th. Josh Michael hit a 2-out, 2-run double in the seventh among his four hits for the Tigers. Todd Harrell, Anthony Denale and Ryan Daniel all had two hits for the visitors. Starter Daniel Hadra improved to 4-2 with 7.1 strong innings in which he yielded seven hits, three earned runs and fanned four.

Mary Hutchins captured the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

    Sophomore Joe John belted two homers, including a sixth-inning grand slam, to help Guilford College to a 17-7 baseball win over visiting Lawrence University Thursday afternoon at McBane Field. The win snapped the Quakers' (6-15) 12-game losing streak, which dated to Feb. 24. The Vikings fall to 0-6 with their sixth setback in four days of their trip south from Wisconsin.

    Third baseman Brett Thomas clubbed a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Ferrum to an 11-1 non-conference baseball win this afternoon at home over Guilford College.

    A Greg Meleski bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the 10th inning gave Randolph-Macon College a 4-3 victory and capped off an ODAC double header sweep over Guilford College Saturday afternoon in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets claimed game one by the score of 4-1.

    Jess Maloney's two-out single two center scored the go-ahead runs in Greensboro College's 12-9 baseball win over Guilford College Wednesday at McBane Field. The hit keyed the Pride's (9-7) three-run sixth inning and turned an 8-7 deficit into a 9-8 advantage. Josh Maras, Kevin Showe and Torrey Poholsky combined to hold Guilford to a single run in the final four innings for the victory.

    Jake Loye went 5-6 with six RBI to lead Averett past Guilford, 17-9, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at McBane Field. Loye belted a three-run homer off of Jared Via in the top of the seventh inning to give the guests an 11-6 edge. He also hit a two-run double in the second inning and an RBI single in the ninth.

The Quakers' (4-2) third one-run win of the season marked their third victory in four games.

The Quakers' second one-run win over the Lions in as many days gives them a sweep of the season series and moves their record to 2-1. Piedmont drops to 0-3.

    Rookie Alex Starbuck's one-out homer in the bottom of the ninth lifted host Guilford past Piedmont Saturday afternoon, 4-3, in the Quakers' home opener. The solo shot to right field marked the first of Starbuck's college career.

    Guilford's baseball squad was picked seventh by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball coaches in the league's preseason poll Thursday. Defending league champion Virginia Wesleyan tops the poll with six-of-10 first-place votes. Bridgewater, the defending conference runner-up, finished second in the balloting and received four first-place votes.

    Rookie head coach Nick Black’s ‘02 Quakers posted a 24-18 overall record in 2006, 10-8 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Guilford won over 20 games for the sixth straight season and set the school standard with a .337 team batting average. The Quakers’ campaign ended in the six-team ODAC Baseball Tournament for the fourth time in five years with a fourth-place showing.

    Jason Daniels and Chris Johnson have been hired as assistant coaches in volleyball and baseball, respectively, Guilford College Athletics Director Marion Kirby announced Thursday. Daniels will support volleyball head coach Emily Hayes and Johnson will aid baseball head coach Nick Black '02.
