Greensboro, NC -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford sophomore Logan Collier (Rural Hall, NC/North Forsyth) as the league's Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 13. Collier is the team's first recipient of the award this season.
The 6-7, 200-pound right-hander ranks sixth in the ODAC in earned run average (ERA) (3.65), opponents' batting average (.253) and innings pitched (24.2) and is tied for second in strikeouts (25) and wins (4). Collier began his award-winning week with a tough-luck loss at Averett in which he allowed three runs, only one of them earned, in three innings, during which he had eight strikeouts and allowed two hits. In his second and final game of the week, Collier defeated league-foe Virginia Wesleyan 7-0 in the second game of a doubleheader. He allowed seven hits as he pitched the Quakers' first nine-inning, complete-game shutout since 2002.
Coach Gene Baker's squad started the week with an 11-10 overall record, 3-3 in the ODAC. Guilford visits cross-town rival Greensboro on Tuesday (3/22) before returning home Saturday to host a doubleheader with ODAC opponent Bridgewater.
