  • Nick Black Named Baseball Coach at Guilford College

    Guilford College Director of Athletics Marion Kirby announced the hiring of Nick Black as the school's head baseball coach Thursday. Black replaces Gene Baker who resigned last month after eight years at Guilford to accept a teaching and administrative position in Nashville, TN.

    Guilford College's Andrew Lerner earned a spot on the 2005 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III Second Team All-South Region Baseball squad Thursday. Junior Rob Bittner and sophomore Chad Boone earned honorable mention recognition. The announcement marked each player's first regional honor.

    Guilford College's Jennifer Franklin and Rob Bittner earned all-state recognition from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) earlier this week. Franklin received all-state softball honors and Bittner represented Guilford on the group's baseball team.

    Guilford College's Jeff Arzonico, Brian Burton and Jake Lubel earned spots on the Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Baseball squad Thursday. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selected the academic all-district teams. First-team honorees advance to the national Academic All-America® ballot.
  • Guilford Baseball Players Earn ODAC Honors

    Guilford College's Josh Miller and Brian Burton received Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball honors according to a vote of the league's head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday. The Quakers' Jeff Arzonico, Rob Bittner and Andrew Lerner garnered honorable mention recognition.
  • Guilford Upends Bluefield, 15-5, in College Baseball Action

    Sophomore Chad Boone (Winston-Salem, NC/West Forsyth) belted two solo homers and Rob Bittner (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) added a two-run blast in Guilford’s 15-5 win at NCAA Division II Bluefield State Monday night. The win snapped Guilford’s three-game losing streak and gave the Quakers (24-16) a sweep of the season series with the Big Blues (4-42). Bluefield has lost 28 straight games.

    Visiting Guilford scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning and senior Dave Shaffer held Ferrum scoreless in the bottom frame for a 13-9 Quakers’ baseball win over the Panthers Wednesday night.

    Host North Carolina Wesleyan scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 9-4 non-conference win over Guilford Saturday afternoon. Senior Brian Massey drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run for North Carolina Wesleyan (5-3).

    Guilford’s baseball team improved to 3-1 Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of host Oglethorpe. The contests marked the Stormy Petrels’ (0-2) first games of the season.
