Greensboro, NC (05/20/03) -- Freshman Brian Slate (Thomasville, NC/Wesleyan Academy) earned a spot on the 2003 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III First-Team All-South Region Baseball squad Tuesday. Junior A.J. McCauley (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and senior Andrew Duffy (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) earned second-team and honorable mention recognition, respectively. Slate is a candidate for a spot on the ABCA All-America teams, which will be announced later this week. The announcement marked each player's first regional honor.
Guilford's senior class of Zach Morgan, Andrew Duffy, Luke Kempton, Brad Franklin, R.J. Marks, Mike Goettler and Gabe Staub has compiled a 113-89 record in five seasons, one of the best five-year marks in school history. The seniors have helped the Quakers to three ODAC Tournament appearances and played on last year's 30-14 club that tied the school record for wins in a season and finished second in the ODAC.

Guilford's 2003 baseball team looks to finish a job left undone at the 2002 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament as it came up one game short of clenching the ODAC title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Coach Gene Baker returns 15 players from last year's squad and expects 15 newcomers to play key roles on this year's team. The Quakers hope to improve on the 30-14 record of a year ago and help Baker enter the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his Guilford tenure.

Greensboro, NC (10/06/02) - Team Black rode Brad Franklin and RJ Marks' timely hitting to a 2-0 lead in the Guilford College World Series under clear blue skies at McBane Field on Sunday. Franklin, three-for-three on the day, drove home AJ McCauley with a bases-loaded single for the first run of the game in the visitors' third inning. Marks followed with a bases-clearing double that provided all the margin starter and winner Dave Shaffer and freshman lefty Matt Spoerlein needed as the Black pushed Team Cardinal to the edge of extinction.

Never a threat for Academic All-America honors, the management team of Kempton, RJ Marks, Brad Franklin, and Gabe Staub bypassed a roster full of pitchers to name Kempton as the game-one hurler.
Greensboro, NC (10/03/02) - With the first pick in this year's Guilford Intrasquad World Series draft, Team Black selected junior outfielder/pitcher AJ McCauley and immediately tabbed itself as the favorite in the fifth annual Guilford College Fall Classic. Team Black hasn't lost a GCWS since 1998 when, sophomore Chad Coward earned three victories in Team Cardinal's 4-2 victory. Since Coward's trade to Team Black following that series, it has run off three straight GCWS wins.
Greensboro, NC (08/27/02) -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced the appointment of Brian Stewart as the school's assistant baseball coach Tuesday. Stewart replaces Adam Taylor, who took an assistant coaching position at the University of Richmond this summer.
