  • Becomes the sixth member of Guilford's 1972-73 NAIA national championship men's basketball squad to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. 
  • Coach Jack Jensen's club compiled a 92-19 record and made three national tournament appearances in Kent's four seasons. 
  • Kent also competed with the Guilford's track and field team, winning All-CIAC recognition as a high jumper in 1975 and 1976. 
  • After graduating with a physical education degree in 1976, he started coaching and teaching at Westchester Academy in High Point, NC. 
  • He led Westchester's boys basketball team to six state playoff appearances, including a second-place finish in 1984.
  • From 1985 to 1992, he guided the boys hoops squad at Ledford High School to four state playoffs and a runner-up finish in 1992.  (Kent's former teammate at Guilford, John Ralls '76, is the successful girls' basketball coach at Ledford and was inducted into Guilford's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.) 
  • The head boys basketball coach at Southwest Guilford High School since 1992, Kent has taken the Cowboys to the Class 2-A state tournament five years in a row, winning the title in 1996 with a 30-2 record.
  • One of the stars of that team, Todd Ashworth, is now a member of Guilford's basketball squad. 
  • A three-time Guilford County Boys Basketball Coach of the Year
  • Kent is married to former Guilford volleyball player Amy Chastain '89 and resides in High Point, NC.
