  • An outstanding student-athlete at Guilford, Baker played basketball, football, and baseball, choosing to concentrate on the latter two after his freshman year.
  • Primarily a shortstop in baseball, Baker was an outstanding hitter who could play any position on the field.
  • With his strong arm, he was a dangerous quarterback for the football team.
  • Baker was Most Valuable Player for the baseball team in 1959, and was selected as Best Undergraduate Athlete the same year.
  • In 1959 and 1960, Baker, an economics and business administration major, was an Honorable Mention Academic All-America.
  • Baker, who lives in Advance, North Carolina, and owns Industrial Handling Systems, Inc., has stayed active in Guilford athletics, serving as president of the Quaker Club from 1993-94.
