WILMINGTON, N.C. – Guilford College's women's cross country team placed sixth among nine teams Friday at the 2012 UNC Wilmington Seahawk Cross Country Invitational. East Carolina University took the top-five scoring spots and won the race handily over second-place UNC Wilmington. Meredith College placed third, followed by North Carolina State University's club team and Pfeiffer University.
East Carolina's Stacey Gonzalez completed the rainy five-kilometer course over UNC Wilmington's recreational fields in a winning time of 18 minutes, 17.69 seconds.
Sophomore Jasmine O'Neill placed 35th in the 99-woman field with a time of 21:31.98, the 11th-fastest time in school history. Teammate Rebecca Reyna was two places behind in 21:39.18. Rookie Pasangi Perera had the Quakers' third-best time, 23:25.16, which placed 54th overall.
Guilford next runs Sept. 28 at the Charlotte XC Invitational.
