Guilford Falls to Roanoke, 3-0, in Tight ODAC Match
SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Sarah Long had a game-high 12 kills in Roanoke College's hard-fought 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win over visiting Guilfod College Wednesday night.
Guilford (8-12, 2-6 ODAC) won the first three points of the opening match and stayed in control of the first set until a Long kill put the Maroons (14-10, 3-5 ODAC) up for good, 14-13. Guilford rallied from a 20-15 deficit in the second set to tie score at 24-24, but Roanoke scored the next two points for the win. Guilford held a 19-16 third-set lead before the Maroons rallied to victory.
Roanoke freshman Macey Tyree had six kills and 12 digs in the contest. Senior Shannon Stone had a game-high six blocks and a team-high 19 digs. Junior Samantha Klostermann added four blocks.
Rookie Kelsey Ruehling recorded nine kills and a team-high 16 digs defensively for the Quakers. Sophomore Brittany DeCesare added eight kills, 11 digs and two service aces. Junior setter Taylor Whitley had a game-high 21 assists in the contest and tallied 15 digs. Classmate Malikah French led the Quakers in blocks (3) and stood third in kills (7).
The Quakers play their next match home, against Hollins University, Friday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
