Record-Setting Performances Highlight Women's Track & Field Opener
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Guilford College's Jennifer Thomas and the Quakers' 4x400-meter relay team set school records Saturday at the College Kick-Off Classic at the JDL Fast Track. Guilford was the lone NCAA Division III team represented at the non-scoring meet, which marked the Quakers' first indoor track and field competition of the season.
Thomas, a freshman, placed 41st among 45 contestants in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.80 seconds. She bettered the former standard of 9.54 seconds by Carlette Harper in 2012.
The Quakers' 4x400 team, comprised of Emily Cash, Pasangi Perera, Colleen Gonzalez and Rebecca Reyna, placed 10th among 10 teams with a time of 4:55.91 seconds. The time was nearly three seconds faster than the previous mark set last season at the JDL Fast Track College Invitational.
Coach Danny Cash's Quakers are back in action Jan. 20 at the Winston-Salem State Open, which will also be contested at the JDL Fast Track.
