GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hollins University claimed an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's tennis victory over host Guilford College Sunday afternoon in the Quakers' league opener.
Hollins (3-1, 2-0 ODAC) took two of three doubles points as the first-doubles team of Victoria Coffee and Sarah Grace McCormick claimed an 8-1 win and the third-doubles pair of Trudy Siziba and Karen Montoya took an 8-3 triumph. Guilford's Haley Andrews and Allison Hewitt pulled out an 8-5 win at second doubles for the Quakers' lone point.
Coffee and Karen Montoya lost just two points between them in straight-set singles wins at first- and second-singles, respectively. McCormick needed a pro-set tiebreaker to top Guilford's Dominique Crespo at fifth singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Trudy Siziba also needed three sets to defeat Guilford's Meredith Shaffer, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8 at sixth singles.
Guilford (2-2, 0-1 ODAC) is back in action next Saturday against Southern Virginia University and Methodist University.
