GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College and Washington and Lee University played to a scoreless draw in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer opener for both teams. The Quakers (5-2-1, 0-0-1) extend their unbeaten streak to five with the tie, but remain winless in the 29 women's soccer meetings with Washington and Lee (2-1-1, 0-0-1 ODAC).
The Generals owned a commanding 21-6 edge in shots, but could not solve Guilford senior goalie Amy Baker, who made a career-high 13 saves. Baker made a save on Madeline Forrestel's shot with 40 seconds left in regulation and came up with two stops in the 93rd minute.
Katherine Rush had six of Washington and Lee's 21 shots, five on goal.
One of Guilford's best scoring opportunities came late in the first half, when the ODAC's leading scorer, Sarah Levitt got free for an undefended shot on Generals' keeper Emily Leary. Leary came out to cut down the angle and successfully deflected the ball away. She finished with three saves in the game.
Guilford is back in action Wednesday (9/21) at league-rival Emory & Henry College at 4:30 p.m.
