GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College's E'leyna Garcia was named the league's Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Monday. Garcia also won the Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Garcia, a 5-10 junior attacker, led Guilford with a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists in the Quakers' season-opening 18-5 win over Sewanee Feb. 16. She also picked up six ground balls and won three draw controls. Her eight points stand ninth in Guilford's single-game history and her six goals are the sixth-highest total.
Garcia moved into eighth place on Guilford's career scoring list with 152 points and into ninth place on the Quakers' career goals chart with 108. She also climbed into third place on Guilford's career assists list with 44.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and participation in Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes' community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
