Christopher Newport Downs Guilford, 20-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ashton Marshall scored seven goals and two assists in Christopher Newport University's 20-8 women's lacrosse win at Guilford College Sunday.

Grace Valentine and Jessica Singer both added four scores for the Captains (9-1), who raced to a 13-3 lead. Marshall collected four goals and both assists by halftime. Christopher Newport outshot the Quakers, 25-9, in the opening period. Guilford's Lily Colley and E'leyna Garcia closed out the first-half scoring to make it a 13-5 game at halftime, but the Captains scored the first three goals of the second half and never led the Quakers closer than 10 goals the rest of the way.

Seven different Captains scored goals, although Marshall, Singer and Valentine combined for 15 of Christopher Newport's 20 goals. Monica Evans picked up five ground balls for the Captains and goalie Hannah Wilkerson finished with eight saves.

Colley paced the Quakers with three goals. Garcia and Eleanora Keene both scored twice. Keene added a game-high 10 draw controls. Liza Mettler made 14 saves.

The Quakers visit Roanoke College Saturday (3/31) at 2:00 p.m.
