GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lisa Lee hit two homers, including a grand slam, in Eastern Mennonite University's 8-3 softball win at Guilford College Saturday. She threw a complete-game shutout and doubled in the game's lone runs in the Royals' 2-0 opening-game victory.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader sweep improved Eastern Mennonite's overall record to 19-3 (3-1 ODAC). Guilford falls to 11-11 (1-7 ODAC).
Lee (8-2) scattered seven hits and walked three in the opening-game shutout. The Quakers left nine runners on base and wasted a solid pitching performance by Jessica Burcham (4-5). The senior allowed four hits, one earned run and fanned a season-high nine. Lee had one of those hits, a one-out, third inning double that scored both of the game's runs.
Lee opened the scoring in game two with a third-inning solo homer and keyed the Royals' six-run fourth inning with a grand slam to center. She finished with five runs batted in and scored twice. Megan Viafora added three hits and two RBI and teammate Brooke Hensley also had three hits for Eastern Mennonite. The Royals banged out 14 hits in support of pitcher Jordan Aylor, who moved to 7-1 with a complete-game six hitter. She allowed three runs, walked one and struck out three.
Losing pitcher Ashley Boteler (4-4) had two of Guilford's six hits in the nightcap.
The Quakers return to action Sunday (4/1) against visiting Methodist University. The nonleague twinbill was rescheduled from February.
