Guilford's Keys Tabbed for All-State Team
Guilford College sophomore Kimberly Keys earned College Division All-State softball recognition from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) Thursday. The squad consists of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. North Carolina sports information directors submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the team for the seventh straight year.

Guilford's Keys Named First Team All-ODAC
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball coaches tabbed Guilford College sophomore Kimberly Keys for its 2010 First Team All-ODAC squad, league officials announced Friday. Senior teammate Charissa Duncan was an honorable mention pick. Selections were made by the league’s head coaches based on statistics from conference games.

Eastern Mennonite Upsets Guilford in Opening Round of ODAC Tournament
Lisa Lee went 2-4 with five RBI and threw a complete-game to lead eighth-seeded Eastern Mennonite University to a 6-2 win over top-seeded Guilford College in Friday’s opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Tournament.

Guilford Seeded First For ODAC Softball Tournament
Guilford College emerged from a three-way tie atop of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball standings as the top seed heading into the 2010 ODAC Softball Tournament. The Quakers (28-11-1 overall, 13-5 ODAC) posted the best head-to-head mark against tied foes Roanoke College (30-7, 13-5) and Virginia Wesleyan College (30-7, 13-5), earning them the #1 slot through conference tie-breakers.

The Guilford College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Sunday afternoon with host Lynchburg College, dropping the first game, 4-3, but taking the nightcap, 8-2.

Guilford Sweeps Emory & Henry
Guilford College set the school record for wins in a season with a doubleheader sweep of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Emory & Henry College Friday. Guilford (27-10-1, 12-4 ODAC) won the opener, 10-0, in five innings, and the nightcap, 16-3, in five innings. The 2009 team set the previous mark with 26 victories.

Brittany Willingham was 3-4 with a homer and four RBI to help Randolph College’s softball team to an 8-4 win over Guilford College Wednesday. The win salvaged a split of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader after the Quakers took a 12-9 opening-game win.

Shelby Bowser twirled her first college shutout in Guilford College’s 2-0 win over Meredith College to split a nonconference softball doubleheader Thursday. Amanda Beirne and Lauriel Lebeau combined on a six-hit shutout in the Avenging Angels’ 7-0 opening-game win.

Guilford College senior Peter Latimer won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award and sophomore Jessica Burcham earned the league’s Softball Pitcher of the Week Award Monday. Latimer also received Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week prize, presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Lauren Duncan’s two-out, three-run pinch-double in the sixth inning gave Guilford a 4-3 win and a sweep of Saturday’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at 23rd-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College. The setbacks marked Virginia Wesleyan’s (13-2, 4-2 ODAC) first of the season.

Softball Notches First-Ever Wins Against Bridgewater
Guilford College’s softball team swept two games from visiting Bridgewater College Thursday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) openers for both teams. The victories marked the Quakers’ first over the Eagles in school history. Bridgewater had won the previous 17 meetings between the two schools.

Softball Wins and Ties in Season Opener Against Greensboro
Guilford College opened the 2010 softball season with a win and a tie versus crosstown-rival Greensboro College Wednesday afternoon on a frigid Haworth Field. The Quakers (1-0-1) took the opener, 5-4. The second game was suspended after seven innings due to darkness with the score tied at 3-3.

Guilford Picked Fourth in Preseason ODAC Poll
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball coaches picked Guilford College fourth in their preseason poll, the highest ranking in the Quakers’ history. Guilford received 66 points. Six-time ODAC champion Lynchburg College sits atop the preseason poll, earning 95 total points, including six of the 10 first-place votes. Bridgewater College, ranked 13th in the preseason National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Division III Poll, sits in second place with 88 points and one first-place vote. Roanoke College was picked third and earned three first-place votes.

2010 Softball Outlook
The Shores Plan seems to be working wonders for Guilford College’s softball team. No, it’s not a new weight-loss or conditioning scheme. Nor does it have to do with making money or funding higher education in recessional times. The Shores Plan is head coach Dennis Shores’ strategy for building the Quakers’ fledgling softball program into an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contender. After three seasons of the five-year plan, Shores says his team is right on pace.
