TY COOK NAMED HEAD SOFTBALL COACH AT GUILFORD COLLEGE
Greensboro, NC (06/02/03) -- Guilford College Athletic Director Marion Kirby announced the appointment of Ty Cook as the school's head softball coach Monday. Cook takes over for J.J. Edwards and Barb Bausch, who shared coaching duties on an interim basis in 2003.

THREE GUILFORD SOFTBALL PLAYERS HONORED
Greensboro, NC (04/27/03) -- Guilford's Ashley Cooke (Gibsonville, NC/Eastern Guilford) and Jennifer Franklin (Greensboro, NC/Southern Guilford) earned second-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) laurels according to a vote of the league's head coaches this season. Jennifer Evans (Colfax, NC/Northwest Guilford) received honorable mention recognition. The players are Guilford's first All-ODAC selections in school history as 2003 marked the Quakers' first season of softball competition in the league.

Salem - - Emory & Henry College defeated Guilford College Friday evening, 8-0 in the opening round of the 2003 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Softball Tournament being held at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.

ROANOKE SWEEPS ODAC TWINBILL FROM Guilford
Salem, VA (04/01/03) --The Roanoke College softball team, ranked 12th in the nation, improved to 18-3 on the season with a double-header sweep of Guilford College on Tuesday night in Salem, VA. The Maroons also improve to 7-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Quakers, who are playing their first season as a varsity team since 1990, fall to 7-9, 3-3.

Methodist Opens 2003 Season With Doubleheader Sweep of Guilford
FAYETTEVILLE, NC (02/26/03) - The Methodist Monarch softball team braved both the inclement weather and the Guilford Quakers on Wednesday as they successfully started the 2003 season with a 7-6, 9-0 sweep over Guilford at Monarch Field.

2003 Softball Outlook
After a 12-year hiatus, softball has returned as an intercollegiate sport at Guilford College. Head coach Jason Gottlieb, a 2001 Guilford graduate, assembled the 16-player roster. Soon after the school announced plans to restore the sport, Gottlieb began to lay the tracks for the upcoming season, which will feature a full 40-game schedule. If the preseason workouts and games are any indication on the upcoming year, success may come sooner than people think.

SOFTBALL REINSTATED TO GUILFORD ATHLETICS LINEUP
Greensboro, NC (09/25/01) -- Guilford College Director of Athletics Mike Ketchum announced the reinstatement of softball to the school's varsity athletics program Tuesday. This team marks Guilford's first fast-pitch unit as the Quakers fielded a slow-pitch softball team from 1978-1990.
