Norton Makes School History at NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Guilford College juniors Chad Norton and Andris Goncarovs ran in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Champiponship Course. North Central College won the team title and Tim Nelson of the University of Wisconsin-Stout captured the individual crown with an eight-kilometer time of 24 minutes, 26.8 seconds.
Making his second straight appearance at nationals, Norton crossed the finish line in 25:31.1. His personal-best time ranks fifth in school history and his 73rd-place finish marks the best NCAA result by a Guilford runner. Norton had the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) third-best showing Saturday.
Goncarovs' 25:45.6 clocking ranks eighth in school history and was a shade faster than the time he ran Nov. 10 at the NCAA South-Southeast Regional race. Goncarovs' time represents his second-best this season.
Guilford did not record a team score at the meet, which marked the end of the season. Coach Danny Cash's team placed 12th of 23 teams at the NCAA Division III South-Southeast Regional race and fourth at the ODAC Championships.
