Norton Leads Guilford at Charlotte Invitational
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Guilford College sophomore Chad Norton posted the school's second-fastest eight-kilometer time Friday afternoon at the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational at McAlpine Park. Virginia Tech won the men's race placing four runners in the top eight spots. The Quakers were the lone NCAA Division III team competing at the meet.
Norton led the Quakers with a 27th-place finish and helped Guilford place 18th in the field of 34 teams. His time of 25 minutes, 11.44 seconds, just four seconds shy of the school standard set by teammate Derick Kosgei. Kosgei had Guilford's second-best time (26:11.96) and placed 69th. Sophomore David Cason had the Quakers' third-fastest time (26:42.65), good enough for 98th place. Teammates Richard Rogers (28:03.37) and classmate Dylan Skinner (28:21.62) rounded out Guilford's scoring.
The Quakers' cross country teams will next compete in the North Carolina Collegiate Championships October 15.
