MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sophomore Juwan Houston turned in Guilford's best effort in two events to highlight Friday's opening day of competition at the non-scoring East Tennessee State Track & Field Invitational. The Quakers are the lone NCAA Division III team competing in the predominantly Division I and Division II field.
Houston represented Guilford in the 60-meter hurdles, where his time of 8.86 seconds placed 22nd in the 40-man field. It is the fourth-fastest effort in Guilford history. Houston led five Quakers running the 200 with a time of 23.30 seconds that ranked 53rd among 125 sprinters.
Josephus Mitchell's 7.175 paced four Quakers in the 60-meter dash and placed 47th among 103 runners. Alex Martin came home in 62nd place in 7.287 seconds. Martin had Guilford's second-best 200 time (23.48) on the day.
The two-day competition concludes Saturday (1/13).
