Cason lowered his own standard in Saturday's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of nine minutes, 38.38 seconds. He finished 10th among 21 contestants and had the best time by an NCAA Division III runner in the field. Cason's time shattered his previous best, a 9:44.10 at the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships.
Norton clocked a school-record 14:54.29 in Friday's B section of the 5,000 meters. His time was best among Division III harriers and bettered the former mark of 14:59.16 set by Derick Kosgei '12 at the 2011 Raleigh Relays. Norton now holds three of the Quakers' eight-best times in the discipline.
All-American Johnathan Smith had the third-fastest time in the 100-meter preliminaries (10.84), but did not run in the final. Teammate C.J. Green just missed reaching the finals with a wind-aided 11.03 time. Green took 19th among 38 in Saturday's 200 race with a time of 22.68 seconds.
Interim coach Danny Cash's team competes next Saturday (4/14) at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
