RALEIGH – Guilford College's Johnathan Smith qualified for Saturday's 100-meter dash final on Friday's opening day of the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University's Paul Derr Track.
The Quakers' men's team is rated 23rd in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Rankings.
Smith, who owns the top 100 and 200 times in NCAA Division III, posted a preliminary time of 10:58 seconds, which was the day's fifth-best time. His time was the better of two NCAA Division III clockings that qualified for Saturday's 16-man final.
Guilford's Dylan Skinner ran a personal-best time of 50.59 seconds in the 400. He placed 71st in the 119-man field. Teammate David Cason ran a personal-best 4:04.68 in the 1,500, which was 30th-fastest among 77 runners competing in the discipline's Sections 5-8. Cason's time ranks eighth all-time at Guilford.
The Raleigh Relays conclude Saturday (3/31).
