GUILFORD STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: FEB. 6-12

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Dylan Skinner collected the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday. The award is presented weekly by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Skinner, a distance runner on the Quakers' track and field team, placed eighth among 50 contenders in the 800-meter run at the JDL First Track College Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. His time of 1:57.68 seconds was the fastest NCAA Division III time at the meet and the best time in school history. Skinner now holds five of Guilford's eight fastest times in this race. Skinner also set the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standard of the season and ranks 99th nationally in the 800-meter run. He also ran a leg in the 4x400 meter relay race, which placed 15th among 21 contenders, second among all Division lll contestants. The team's time of 3:36.04 ranks fourth in school history.

Interim Coach Danny Cash's Quakers are ranked 11th in this week's USTFCCCA Division lll South region poll and return to action Feb. 24 at the ODAC Indoor Championships.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford's SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include  cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at the New Garden Friends School.
