Men’s Track & Field Opens the Season at Liberty University Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, Va -- Guilford's men's track and field teams opened the 2011-12 indoor season Saturday at the Liberty University Kickoff at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center.  The meet featured NCAA Division I and Division III teams from Virginia and North Carolina.

Johnathan Smith, Guilford's first-ever Division III Track All-American, finished ninth out of 58 runners in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.02 seconds.  Leaving him one spot out of a chance to compete in the finals.

Guilford junior Josh Farrar finished 25th with a time of 54.15 in the 400 meter dash.

Teammates John-Michael Chelminski, Farrar, Travis Robinson and Dylan Skinner ended the day finishing 10th in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:38.77.

The Quakers' track and field teams return to action Jan. 13-14 at the Dick Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
