Methodist Takes 6-3 Men's Tennis Win Over Guilford

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Host Methodist University won all three doubles contests and split the singles matches in Saturday's 6-3 nonconference win over visiting Guilford College. The Monarchs improved to 3-0 with the win, while Guilford falls to 2-1.

R.J. Clement was one of Methodist's three two-time winners on the day. He teamed with Jacob Oehser for an 8-3 victory over Guilford's top tandem of Tate Godwin and Mesa Martorell. Clement later posted a 6-2, 6-1, win over Godwin at first singles.

John Dangerfield and Wynn Johnson won at second doubles, 8-3, over Graham Pearson and Chasen Chacon, and also won their singles matches. Johnson rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 third-singles win over Guilford's Aaron Smedley. Dangerfield took down Levi Bruff at fifth singles, 7-6, 6-2.

Guilford's Martorell won at second singles, 7-6, 2-6, 10-6, over Oehser. Rookie Jon-Anthony Thomas dispatched of Reid Rose at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-4. Guilford's Mason Church took a 6-1, 6-2, sixth-singles decision over Kayhan Alikhani.
