ATLANTA – Guilford College's men's tennis team wrapped up its season-opening competition at the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Emory University Saturday. The Quakers sent seven students to the competition and had four in the main singles draw.
Sophomore Turner Votipka recorded Guilford's lone victory of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Corey Adams of Centre College. Emory University' Dylan Wright bounced Votipka from the round of 32 with a 6-1, 6-3 decision.
Guilford also fielded three doubles tandems, including two in the A Doubles bracket. Votipka and freshman Eric Meiler fell to Emory's Declan Hahn and Ayush Bajoria, 8-3. The Quakers' Trevor Cox and Mitchell Patterson also were eliminated in the opening round, losing to Birmingham Southern College's Brian Brandt and Tony Damaia, 8-3.
Coach Dave McCain's Quakers will play in the Methodist Invitational Oct. 5-7 in Fayetteville, N.C.
