Quakers' Men Top Bluefield For First Dual Victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford's tennis teams opened their spring seasons Friday with 9-0 home wins over Bluefield College.

The Quakers' women (1-0) won all three doubles matches, including an 8-2 victory at first doubles by Natalie Sutton and Kim Kleimeier. The pair also won in straight sets at fourth and third singles, respectively. The Quakers' Meredith Shaffer pulled out a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 win over Bluefield's Caitlin Allen at sixth singles in the day's closest match.

Guilford's men (1-2) were helped by the NAIA Rams' four-man roster, which resulted in forfeits at third doubles and fifth and sixth singles. The Quakers' number-one doubles team of Tyler Mercier and Clayton Hamilton cruised to an 8-2 win. Hamilton picked up an 8-3 victory at second singles. Freshman Turner Votipka claimed an 8-2 first-singles triumph.

Guilford's men and women host Greensboro College Sunday (2/12) at 1:00 p.m.
