GREENSBORO, N.C.---Guilford College senior Greg Carnovale scored Guilford College's lone goal in the Quakers' 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win over Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday. The win improves Guilford's 2012 record inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center to 6-0.
Carnovale put the Quakers on the board in the ninth minute off of a Wes Chappelle throw-in. Carnovale beat his defender and then booted the ball inside the net from the right side.
The Marlins held a 19-12 advantage in shots after Virginia Wesleyan held a narrow 8-7 first-half shots advantage. The Marlins also held the advantage on corner kicks, 10-3.
Michael MacVane made six saves, leading the Quakers to their second shutout in as many games. Jake Burtch made three stops in net for Virginia Wesleyan.
The Quakers (8-6, 5-3 ODAC) return to Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center Wednesday when Guilford hosts Lynchburg College at 7 p.m.
