GREENSBORO, N.C.---Guilford College's Freddy Gomez was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7. The three-time All-ODAC performer is Guilford's first recipient of the league's weekly prize since 2010 and has now earned the honor twice in his distinguished career.
Gomez led the Quakers' offense with three goals during the Quakers' 1-1 week. The senior forward netted two goals in a 4-1 win over Emory & Henry College Oct. 3 that improved the Quakers' home record to 5-0. The two-goal effort marked Gomez's eighth multi-goal performance of his career. Gomez continued his four-match goal scoring streak Sunday with a goal at Bridgewater College, lifting Gomez to the ODAC lead in goals (10) and points (21).
With his three goals last week, Gomez became the second-highest career goal scorer in Guilford history with 40 goals. He remains third all-time in school history with 92 total points.
Coach Jeff Bateson's Quakers start the week in Lynchburg, Va., Wednesday to face ODAC-rival Randolph College. The Quakers end of the week Sunday hosting Virginia Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
