Greensboro, NC -- Guilford College senior Darriel Cannon (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) and first year Kendra Potter (Wise, VA/John Burton) received the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Men's Soccer and Women's Cross Country Player of the Week awards, respectively, for the week of September 27, the league announced Monday.
A 5-10, 160-pound forward, Cannon tallied two goals during Guilford's 2-0 week, scoring one goal in each of the contests against Roanoke and Eastern Mennonite, respectively. He scored the game-tying goal against Roanoke in Guilford's first win over the Maroons since 1989. His tally at Eastern Mennonite snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Quakers to a 3-1 win. Cannon's 12 points stand second on the team and represent a career high.
Guilford, unbeaten in its last seven matches (4-0-3), has won the ODAC's Player of the Week prize in each of the past three weeks. Cannon's scholastic and college teammate, senior forward Matt Feraci (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian), received the loop's weekly honor September 20 and September 27.
Coach Liam Behrens' Quakers (5-3-3, 2-0-3 ODAC) played Methodist Monday and return to action October 6 at Chowan at 4:00 p.m.
Potter, a 5-7 first-year runner, placed sixth among 58 runners with a time of 21:40 at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic October 2 in Pleasant Garden, NC. Potter helped the Quakers place a school-record third among six teams and was the meet's top NCAA Division III runner. Guilford's first ODAC Player of the Week in school history, she was the Quakers' top finisher for the fourth straight week.
