DEMOREST, Ga. – Guilford College's men's lacrosse team enjoyed its largest margin of victory in nine seasons Saturday in a 20-2 victory at Piedmont College Saturday.
Andrew McDonagh scored four goals and Daniel Haupt added three as the Quakers (2-1) hit the 20-goal mark since a 23-4 win over Shenandoah University in 2004. Eleven different Guilford students dent the twine, including Duncan Fitzgerald, Chandler Zirkle, Daniel Hughey and Henry Farley, who each tallied twice. Senior Nick Mann contributed a goal and three assists for a game-high four points. Zirkle also contributed an assist and two ground balls to the effort. He scored consecutive goals 32 seconds apart in the first quarter.
Guilford outshot the Lions, 50-15, and scored the game's first eight goals before Piedmont got on the board on Branson Mikell's goal 4:42 before halfttime. The Quakers led at the intermission, 11-1.
Guilford picked up 24 ground balls to Piedmont's 10 and won 15 face-offs, 10 by freshman Connor Manning.
The Quakers are back in action March 3 against visiting DeSales University at 1:00 p.m.
