The tournament-host Quakers swept the top-two places and had three golfers among the top-13 finishers in the 90-student field. Methodist University (306-294-600) fell eight strokes shy of its record seventh O’Briant-Jensen crown and took second in the 17-team field. First-round co-leader Greensboro College (305-296-601) placed third. Greensboro’s B team shared fourth place with Bridgewater College and NCAA Division II member King College at 617.

The lone non-NCAA Division I team in the 13-team field, Guilford shot 303 Tuesday for a three-round score of 886, 23 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Wofford College (869).

Guilford Golfers Place Fifth at Sea Trail IntercollegiateSeptember 26, 2010High Point University’s Chase Wilson shot a two-under 70 in Sunday’s final round of the Sea Trail Men’s Intercollegiate to finish with a 10-under-par 206 and take medalist honors. Tanner Norton of Elon University placed second with a three-day score of 210 (64-69-77) and helped the Phoenix win the team title wire to wire. Stetson University’s Jacobo Pastor (68-71-72) took third place after a scorecard playoff with teammate Sam Ryder (70-67-74) and Elon’s Jack Adkins (71-70-70). The trio finished the tournament with a score of 211.
Elon took the team by six strokes and a score of 850 (275-284-291). Samford University finished the tournament in second place after shooting Sunday’s low round (281-295-280 – 856). George Mason University finished three strokes behind Samford with a score of 859 (286-287-286) while High Point University placed fourth (288-283-290 – 861) and Guilford College, the lone non-NCAA Division I team in the field, finished fifth (291-288-285 – 864).

Corey Maggard Named Head Men's Golf Coach at Guilford CollegeAugust 19, 2010Corey Maggard became Guilford College’s first new men’s golf coach in 34 years Thursday. Maggard, a 2008 graduate of Transylvania (Ky.) University, replaces Jack Jensen, who died suddenly last March. Jensen, 71, served 45 years at Guilford, 33 as the Quakers’ golf coach.
Guilford's Latimer Wins International DebutAugust 11, 2010Recent Guilford College graduate Peter Latimer ’10 won his international golf debut Wednesday playing for Scotland in the 2010 Men’s Home Internationals Championship in Wales. Latimer edged Wales’ Rhys Pugh, 1 up, on the opening day of match play among the four nations of the United Kingdom. Wales defeated Scotland, 8-7, in a tightly played opener that featured two draws and four matches decided on the final hole, including Latimer’s.
