The rankings are made by members of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and will also be published in the Apr. 1 edition of Golf World.

Guilford Golfers Ranked Second In Newest Coaches PollApril 12, 2012Guilford College's men's golf team fell to second place in the latest NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf and Golf Coaches Association of America Coaches' Poll released Thursday. The Quakers earned three first-place votes, but fell a spot behind top-ranked Methodist University, who garnered 13 of 16 first-place votes. Illinois Wesleyan University fell to the third overall ranking. The University of Redlands and the University of Texas at Tyler round out the top five.

Guilford Wins O'Briant-Jensen MemorialOctober 26, 2010Guilford College rallied to win its third O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club. The tournament-host Quakers swept the top-two places and had three golfers among the top-13 finishers in the 90-student field. Methodist University (306-294-600) fell eight strokes shy of its record seventh O’Briant-Jensen crown and took second in the 17-team field. First-round co-leader Greensboro College (305-296-601) placed third. Greensboro’s B team shared fourth place with Bridgewater College and NCAA Division II member King College at 617.

Quakers Place Fourth at Davidson Golf InvitationalOctober 19, 2010Guilford College sophomore Noah Ratner shot a two-under-par 214 over 54 holes to help the Quakers finish fourth at the Davidson College Invitational Tuesday at the River Run Golf Club. The lone non-NCAA Division I team in the 13-team field, Guilford shot 303 Tuesday for a three-round score of 886, 23 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Wofford College (869).
Guilford's Ratner Wins Weekly HonorsOctober 18, 2010Guilford College’s Noah Ratner earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Golfer of the Week Award Monday. The sophomore also collected Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week prize, which is presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He is Guilford’s second recipient of the ODAC’s weekly golf prize this fall and has twice won the award in his career.

The 36-hole competition is being held on the East Course of the Grandover Resort and Conference Center. Tournament host Guilford College sits two strokes off the pace at 292, followed by Oglethorpe University (294) and Huntingdon College (296). Transylvania University shot 297 and rounds out the top five.

Guilford Golfers Place Fifth at Sea Trail IntercollegiateSeptember 26, 2010High Point University’s Chase Wilson shot a two-under 70 in Sunday’s final round of the Sea Trail Men’s Intercollegiate to finish with a 10-under-par 206 and take medalist honors. Tanner Norton of Elon University placed second with a three-day score of 210 (64-69-77) and helped the Phoenix win the team title wire to wire. Stetson University’s Jacobo Pastor (68-71-72) took third place after a scorecard playoff with teammate Sam Ryder (70-67-74) and Elon’s Jack Adkins (71-70-70). The trio finished the tournament with a score of 211.
Elon took the team by six strokes and a score of 850 (275-284-291). Samford University finished the tournament in second place after shooting Sunday’s low round (281-295-280 – 856). George Mason University finished three strokes behind Samford with a score of 859 (286-287-286) while High Point University placed fourth (288-283-290 – 861) and Guilford College, the lone non-NCAA Division I team in the field, finished fifth (291-288-285 – 864).

Elon posted a two-day score of 559 (275-284) and sits 12 strokes ahead of second-place High Point with a score of 571 (288-283). George Mason sits two strokes behind in third place with a 573 (286-287) while Charleston Southern is currently fourth with a score of 574 (288-286) and Samford sits in fifth place with a 576 (281-295).

Methodist University, the defending national champions, is the number-one team in the poll. The Monarchs earned 11 of the 15 first-place votes. Huntingdon College ranks second with three first-place votes. LaVerne College and St. John's (Minn.) University round out the top five.
Corey Maggard Named Head Men's Golf Coach at Guilford CollegeAugust 19, 2010Corey Maggard became Guilford College’s first new men’s golf coach in 34 years Thursday. Maggard, a 2008 graduate of Transylvania (Ky.) University, replaces Jack Jensen, who died suddenly last March. Jensen, 71, served 45 years at Guilford, 33 as the Quakers’ golf coach.
Guilford's Latimer Wins International DebutAugust 11, 2010Recent Guilford College graduate Peter Latimer ’10 won his international golf debut Wednesday playing for Scotland in the 2010 Men’s Home Internationals Championship in Wales. Latimer edged Wales’ Rhys Pugh, 1 up, on the opening day of match play among the four nations of the United Kingdom. Wales defeated Scotland, 8-7, in a tightly played opener that featured two draws and four matches decided on the final hole, including Latimer’s.
