NORMAN, Okla. -- Guilford College's men's golf team received 115 points and ranked 19th in the first edition of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll. The poll was voted on by members of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps topped the rankings after emerging victorious in the NCAA finals last year. The Stags received 14 of 19 first place votes as a heavily favored defending championship squad. Methodist University, who topped the polls for much of last year, landed second in the rankings with one first-place vote and 434 points. Huntingdon College settled in third with 426 points and two first-place votes after a second place finish in last year's NCAA Tournament. Oglethorpe University and Wittenberg University ranked 4th and 5th respectively.
The Quakers return all but one member from the 2015-16 roster. Two-time All-American Ty Palmer, who finished 5th at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship last year, became the 10th Quaker to be selected three times First Team All-ODAC. Another First Team All-ODAC performer, sophomore Justin Perdue, looks to carry the momentum of an impressive rookie year into his sophomore campaign.
Head coach Justin Tereshko's squad returns to action September 3 at the Translyvania Fall Invitational (ODAC) in Lexington, Ky.
