Guilford Holds Second After Day One of Old North State Invitational

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Guilford College's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule Monday at the eight-team Old North State Invitational in New London, N.C. The Quakers share second place with two other schools after shooting 321 at the Old North State Club on a sunny, but windy, day that saw gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

Tournament host Pfeiffer University's 'A' team shot 307 and leads the eight-team field. Guilford, ranked first in Division III, shares second place with Anderson University and Pfeiffer's 'B' team.

Tyson Louth, of Pfeiffer's 'B' team, shot one-over-par on the 7,102-yard layout and leads the 55-man field. Chadd Marburger carded a 75 for the Falcons' 'A' team and stands in second place, one shot ahead of Appalachian State University's Casey Komline, who is playing as an individual.

Sophomore Noah Ratner shot Guilford's low round (79) and sits in 14th place. Teammates Mat Hennick and Alex Wise both shot 80 and share 19th place. Freshman Jon Montgomery shot 82 in his varsity debut and Guilford's J.T. Thomas s turned in a 79 playing as an individual.

Tuesday's second and final round begins at 10:00 a.m. with tee times on the first and 10th holes.
