Wilcox Powers Quakers' Middle-inning Rally in Win at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. - Guilford College's Rocco Wilcox posted three RBI on his three-for-four afternoon as the Quakers claimed a Wednesday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Emory & Henry College, 13-6.

The Quakers (15-14, 2-8 ODAC) used the middle innings to climb over an Emory & Henry (15-15, 5-5 ODAC) one-run lead through the first three innings. Guilford jumped on the Wasps in the top of the fifth inning with a four-run rally, sparked by an Andrew Brann lead-off home run. Wilcox posted a two-RBI single to cap the rally after the Quakers advanced runners on a wild pitch. Wilcox collected his third RBI, sparking a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning on a double down the right-field line. Trevor Denton posted a two-RBI double to left-center field to cap the rally as the Quakers put distance between themselves and the Wasps.

Logan Jones (3-1) took over on the mound in the third inning for the Quakers and went the distance, giving up just two runs as the Quakers' provided enough cushion at the plate. Jones faced adversity in the bottom of the eighth inning after a Daulton Horne double drove in a run, one of only two hits in the inning. However, Jones rallied quickly to induce a foul pop fly to end the inning. The senior finished with two strikeouts while giving up just six hits in his seven-inning relief effort.

Brann finished three-for-four with two RBI, including his home run, representing one of two Quakers with three hits along with Wilcox. Denton finished two-for-six with two RBI while Mitchell Stumpo also added two RBI and drove in the game's first run on a double play. Guilford's top-five batters collected 11 of the Quakers' 15 hits on the afternoon as four of those top-five batters posted a multi-hit effort.

Horne finished two-for-four with one RBI to lead Emory & Henry as he was one of three Wasps with two hits on the afternoon.

Garrett Butler (1-5) took the loss for the Wasps in a one and two-thirds inning relief effort where he walked four and gave up four runs on three hits during the Quakers' rally to claim the lead for good.

The Quakers continued their road swing Saturday, traveling to Eastern Mennonite University for a noon ODAC doubleheader.
