Greennsboro Downs Quakers in Final Game of Series

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro College's Blake Glass tallied six RBI as Guilford College dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to Greensboro, 17-6. Greensboro claimed the three-game, multi-site series, 2-1.

Andrew Brann took advantage of a two-out situation with runners in scoring position to knock a two-RBI double to left field in the top of the first inning to put the Quakers on the board. The Pride countered in the bottom half of the inning as Greensboro loaded the bases with two outs. Blake Glass connected on a grand slam to right field to put the Pride ahead. Greensboro tacked on two more extra-base hits in the inning to cap a seven-run rally in the inning.

The Quakers broke the Greensboro rally in the top of the fourth inning as Michael Pinkston doubled down the left field line with no outs. The Quakers loaded the bases and added an out when Trevor Denton knocked a double down the left field line to drive in two runs as the Quakers rallied for four runs in the inning.

Tim Osborne responded in the next half-inning with a two-out double down the left field line. Greensboro added a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings to grow their lead. The Quakers attempted a rally in the top of the ninth inning as the Quakers placed Andrew Munster and Rocco Wilcox on first and second base with just one out. Greensboro rebounded to strike out Guilford's final two batters to seal the win.

Denton finished the contest two-for-four with two RBI to lead the Quakers at the plate. The Quakers' top third of the batting order tallied six hits as Wilcox also hit two-for-four. Lead-off batter Josh Shepherd finished two-for-five.

Glass finished four-for-six to lead Greensboro while Osborne hit five-for-six with four RBI.

Eric Yost (1-2) took the loss in a one and one-third inning effort where struck out one and walked four. Chase Mitchell struck out two in two and two-third innings while Mitchell Stumpo struck out one and walked one, throwing the final inning.

Tyler Garam (1-1) claimed the win for the Pride in a four-inning relief effort, striking out four and walking one.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, traveling to Averett University for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
