The baseball team's Casey Mann won the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday.
The 5-9, 180-pound center fielder helped the Quakers to a 2-2 week with 11 hits in 17 at bats. He logged a .647 batting average, had a double and three RBI. Mann had at least two hits in all four games, including four in the second game of a doubleheader at Bridgewater College. The red-shirt sophomore went two-for-five with a double and an RBI in a loss to Roanoke College. He had a team-high three hits and two RBI in Guilford's first win at Bridgewater since 2000. Mann stole his team-leading 12th base of the season and contributed two hits and two runs in the Quakers' 18-5 victory over Eastern Mennonite.
Mann's .357 hitting percentage is fourth among fellow Quakers and he sits fifth on the team in RBI (17) and sixth in slugging percentage (.427). He has cleanly fielded all 101 chances in center field this season. Mann has a team-high 17 multiple-hit games this year.
Coach Nick Black's '02 club (21-16, 9-7 ODAC) returns to the field Saturday (4/21) versus conference-foe Emory & Henry College at noon. The Quakers have matched their highest win total since 2006.
