#10 Piedmont Downs Guilford, 9-1

DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont College's Max Oberkofler and Luke MacDonald combined to four-hit visiting Guilford College in the Lions' 9-1 baseball victory Thursday.

The Lions (12-3) are ranked 10th in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll.

Curtis Cornett had two hits, including his first homer of the season, for Piedmont. He also doubled in the Lions' six-run first inning. Garrett Lovelace had a two-run double in the first and Matt Youtsey added a two-run triple against Guilford starter Micah Denny (0-1). Piedmont had six of its 11 hits in the opening frame.

Oberkofler allowed two hits to Guilford lead-off hitter Casey Mann and a single to Zack Montalbano in seven innings. He fanned five and walked three in his first win of the season. MacDonald entered in the eighth and allowed the Quakers' lone run on Dustin Cockman's ninth-inning sacrifice fly.

Guilford visits Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Hampden-Sydney College Saturday (3/10) at noon.
