Make a gift to the Quaker Club

The Quaker Club supports special projects and initiatives for the athletic department. Gifts may be made to the general athletic fund or 50% may be designated to a particular sport. Another way to give is through a “gift in kind” to a particular sport. For more information contact Senior Director of Annual Giving Emily Thompson at (336) 316-2855.

About the Quaker Club

The Quaker Club was established by Herb Appenzeller in 1956 to promote, encourage and support Guilford College's 20 athletic teams. The money donated by the club's members supplements the athletic budget by underwriting programs, helping to buy equipment and other various needs teams may have. One of the biggest accomplishments by the Quaker Club was the Super Sponsor Program in 1978 which raised funds to build the Ragan-Brown Field House, which is still in use today.

Guilford is an NCAA Division III member that competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Quaker Club has recently had a membership base of over 300. While this membership number is great, we know we can be bigger and better. We are always looking for more boosters so whether you are a Guilford alumnus or a friend of the program, please consider becoming a member of the Quaker Club.

Monthly Quaker Club Breakfasts

Quaker Club members and Guilford College faculty/staff members are invited to monthly breakfasts in the Gilmer Room of Guilford's Founders Hall. Each breakfast features remarks from current student-athletes and coaches, as well as the occasional special guest of interest to friends of Guilford Athletics.

This year's breakfasts were held Sept. 30, Nov. 4, Feb. 3, and Mar. 2. A Quaker Club dinner will be held in the Gilmer Room Monday, Apr. 9 at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Facility Updates

Stuart T. Maynard Batting Center Completed

The official opening and dedication of the Center took place April 10, 2010, between the two games of Guilford's ODAC doubleheader against Randolph-Macon College.

2008-09 Facility Updates

Due to generous gifts to Guilford College and the Quaker Club, the athletic department enjoyed a number of new and upgraded facilities on campus. Armfield Athletic Center was upgraded with a Field Turf surface in the summer of 2009. McBane Field underwent a small renovation, while a new tennis center and building were constructed in the summer of 2008. None of these projects would have been accomplished without the funds raised by the Quaker Club.
